The Fatih corporate culture and flavours trip is a full-day walking programme, running from 10:00 to 17:30, along the Fatih, Çarşamba and Edirnekapı axis of Istanbul's Historic Peninsula, away from the main tourist centres. Imperial mosques, neighbourhood markets and long-established shops are seen together. Reached by coach, the programme suits department and project teams of 8-35.
The tour starts at the Fatih Mosque, the first great imperial complex built after the conquest of Istanbul; the guide covers the tomb of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, the madrasas and the rebuilding after the 18th-century earthquake. Next, the group walks the fruit and vegetable, spice and textile stalls of whichever neighbourhood market falls on the day, with the guide, and explores Fevzi Paşa Avenue and the surrounding hans. Lunch is at a traditional tradesmen's restaurant (esnaf lokantası).
In the afternoon, boza and roasted chickpeas are served at Vefa Bozacısı, which has sold boza since the 19th century. The group visits the Yavuz Sultan Selim Mosque on the hill overlooking the Golden Horn and the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, Mimar Sinan's building near the city walls. After a dessert stop, the group tours the Hırka-i Şerif Mosque and its surroundings; Kariye (Chora) can be added depending on time and demand. The day ends with an optional street food stop.
It suits department and project teams of 8-35 and appeals to teams who want to get to know the lived-in side of Istanbul and bond over food and conversation. Physical effort is moderate; the walks between neighbourhoods include the slopes of the Golden Horn.
Unlike tourist areas such as Sultanahmet, the Fatih tour covers the culture that has continued for centuries within the daily life of Istanbul's own residents: historic mosques, neighbourhood markets, tradesmen's restaurants and authentic flavours. Its focus is more on 'street food', 'bazaars and markets', 'tradespeople's stories' and 'everyday religious life'.
Coaches depart from the main stop closest to the company's location, chosen from set central points on the European and Asian sides of Istanbul (Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Mecidiyeköy, Levent, Bakırköy, Pendik, Taksim and so on) and in the surrounding provinces (Kocaeli, Sakarya, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Bursa, Yalova). Door-to-door service can also be arranged at the company's request.
Depending on the day, the group visits the Çarşamba Market (a fruit, vegetable and clothing market held on Wednesdays), the Salı Market (Tuesdays) or the Pazartesi Market (Mondays). The historic Fatih markets are among the largest and oldest neighbourhood markets in Istanbul.
There are many food stops, including kelle paça soup, tripe soup, dried bean stew, pilaf, şalgam, stuffed mussels, çiğ köfte, lahmacun, pide, Fatih simit, cheese or mince poğaça, kadayıf, baklava, boza, roasted chickpeas, regional spices, honey, grape molasses, olives, sucuk and pastırma. It is not possible to try them all in a single tour; 3-4 stops are chosen before the tour according to the company's request.
About 10-12 hours from coach departure to return (between 08:00 and 20:00). The active programme within Fatih (guided walk, mosques, market and food stops) is about 6-7 hours.
