The Thrace vineyards corporate trip is a tasting and learning programme that visits vineyard estates and wineries in Tekirdağ and Edirne with a sommelier, and can be planned as a day trip or with an overnight stay. The vineyard walk, production facility tour, tastings and meals are included in the package. The programme is designed for executive and leadership teams of 5-25 planning an incentive trip or a leadership gathering.
Shaped by the moderating influence of the Sea of Marmara and the slopes of Mount Ganos (Işıklar), Thrace is one of Türkiye's long-established wine-growing regions; vines have been cultivated around Şarköy and Mürefte for centuries. The programme opens with a guided walk through the vineyards, where the effect of vine, soil and climate on the wine, in other words the concept of terroir, is explained on the spot. The group then tours the winery to see how the grapes are processed, the fermentation tanks, the oak barrels and the cellar.
At each winery visit, 3-6 wines are assessed with a sommelier by colour, aroma, body and finish. At one of the meals, wine is paired with local cheeses, olive-oil dishes and meat or fish. The programme closes with a short seminar on wine culture, grape varieties and regional differences, and participants receive a certificate of attendance.
Suitable for executive and leadership teams of 5-25; it appeals to organisations looking for a calm setting that encourages conversation for an incentive trip, a board gathering or hosting select clients. The physical effort is light; the vineyard walks are short and on flat or gently sloping ground. Participation is for those aged 18 and over only.
It depends on the winery visited, but a typical workshop covers 5-7 wines: white (for example Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Narince, Emir), rosé, red (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Kalecik Karası, Öküzgözü, Boğazkere) and sweet (Muscat, Late Harvest). The wine educator explains the aroma, body, acidity and finish of each wine.
The harvest usually runs from late August to early October. During this period participants pick grapes in the vineyard, try crushing the grapes, taste the fresh must and watch fermentation begin. There is also a conversation with the winemakers about the harvest process.
April to October, when the vineyards are green, is ideal. The harvest period (September-October) is the most popular. In the winter months (November-March) the vines are dormant, but wine tastings and winery tours can still take place, and the vineyard landscape is quieter and more peaceful.
