Overview
A half-day corporate route that follows on foot the transformation Istanbul went through in the first years of the Republic. For teams based in Istanbul that cannot set aside a full day, it is the most practicable option in the week of 29 October.
The route
- Dolmabahçe Palace: state protocol in the Republican period and where Atatürk worked in Istanbul.
- Taksim Republic Monument: the story of how the monument was built and the period's understanding of public space.
- İstiklal and the Pera line: the urban culture that changed in the early Republic — the publishing houses, cinemas and coffee houses.
- Closing: the programme ends with group coffee or lunch in Pera.
Format
The programme is walking-weighted; the total distance is roughly 3 kilometres and the rest points are built into the flow. A follow-vehicle option is offered for participants with limited mobility. For groups above 40 a wireless headset system is used, so the guide's narrative is not lost in street noise.
Planning note
In the holiday week, visiting hours at Dolmabahçe can change and access restrictions around Taksim may be in force because of ceremonies. We confirm the programme against that information and, where necessary, run the route in reverse. The recommended minimum planning time is 4 weeks.

Half a day — 3.5 to 4 hours on average. It is designed for teams based in Istanbul that cannot set aside a full day; a programme starting in the morning allows a return to the office in the afternoon.
The total walking distance is 2.5-3 km, on level ground with stops along the way. The pace is set by the group. Shuttle support between stops can be planned for participants who find walking difficult; that request must be made in advance.
15-60 people. On an outdoor walk, a second guide is brought in once the group passes 30; with a single guide the narrative becomes hard to hear on busy streets.
Because the route includes indoor stops (the palace interiors, the museum), the programme continues in light rain. In heavy rain the route is shortened and an indoor-weighted alternative flow takes over; that alternative is defined before the programme.
4-6 weeks is enough. Because palace and museum group appointments fill quickly in the week of 29 October, though, an early decision secures your preferred time slot.
