What is in the programme?
Göbeklitepe is known for monumental structures dating back some 11,000-12,000 years, to the period before farming became widespread, and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018. Under the protective roof, the group examines the circular enclosures, the T-shaped pillars and the animal reliefs carved on them – foxes, wild boar, snakes and vultures – with the guide.
Lunch features liver and aubergine kebabs and çiğ köfte. Next come Balıklıgöl, associated with the Prophet Abraham, the Aynzeliha Lake and the Mevlid-i Halil Mosque. To the south, in Harran, the group sees the conical-domed mud-brick houses and the Inner Citadel. At the end of the day there is time at Gümrük Hanı and the Dergah Bazaar for isot pepper, copperwork and regional products. In the overnight programme, the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum is added on day two.

There are direct flights to Şanlıurfa GAP Airport from Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir. From the airport, Göbeklitepe is about 45-50 minutes by private transfer. For those travelling by road, it lies about 20 km from Şanlıurfa city centre, within the boundaries of Örencik village. It can also be reached from the city centre by municipal bus (route 100).
As of 2026, Göbeklitepe is open 08:30-19:00 from 1 April to 31 October and 08:30-17:00 from 31 October to 1 April. Ticket offices close half an hour before closing time. An entry fee applies and is updated periodically; Museum Card holders enter free of charge.
Göbeklitepe, dating to around 10,000 BC, is the oldest known temple complex in the world. The fact that it was built before the agricultural revolution and settled life has changed what we know about human history. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018.
An average of 1.5-2 hours is enough to tour the excavation area and the structures under the protective roof. Including the return journey from central Şanlıurfa, half a day (4-5 hours) should be planned.
Summers in Şanlıurfa are very hot, while winters are cold and wet. The best periods are spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October). If you are visiting in summer, early morning hours should be preferred.
