Overview
The Golden Horn corporate cycling tour is a full-day programme in which the group rides, with a guide, a route of around 12-18 kilometres on both shores of the Golden Horn, from Unkapanı to Eyüp Sultan and Sütlüce. Participants arrive by coach from Istanbul and the surrounding provinces; riding starts at around 11:00 and ends at 17:00 with the return of equipment. It suits teams that want to explore the historic neighbourhoods actively and over a wider area than a walking tour allows.
What is in the programme?
The first stage runs between Unkapanı, Azapkapı and Fener; the guide explains the Azapkapı Tuesday Market and the historic flour mills of Unkapanı. In Fener and Balat the bikes are left briefly to see the colourful houses, the Ecumenical Patriarchate (from the outside), the Phanar Greek Orthodox College known as the Red Church, and then the cast-iron Bulgarian Church of St Stephen. After a coffee break in Balat, the route passes the Ayvansaray walls and the Eğrikapı area to join the Golden Horn coastal road.
At Eyüp Sultan the bikes are parked and the group visits the Eyüp Sultan Mosque and Tomb and the Ottoman-era cemetery on foot; optionally, the cable car goes up to Pierre Loti Hill. On the way back the historic Golden Horn Shipyard and the Camialtı Shipyard are described from the outside, a short stop is made in front of Miniatürk, and the route returns to Balat via Sütlüce and Hasköy.

Planning Notes
- Food and drink, the Pierre Loti cable car fare and travel insurance are not included.
- The Eyüp Sultan Mosque visit must be planned around prayer times and dress codes; Friday midday is busy.
- Spring and autumn are the best seasons; in wet weather an alternative centred on museums or markets can be used.
- Bike availability and size distribution must be confirmed in advance according to the number of participants.

Coaches leave from the main stop nearest the company's location: designated central points on the European and Asian sides of Istanbul (Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Mecidiyeköy, Levent, Bakırköy, Pendik, Taksim and others) or in the surrounding provinces (Kocaeli, Sakarya, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Bursa, Yalova). Door-to-door pick-up can also be arranged on request.
This tour is built entirely around cycling, so all participants need basic cycling skills (keeping their balance, pedalling, using the brakes and gears). For those who do not cycle, a walking group or an electric scooter option can be considered as an alternative.
The route totals between 12 and 18 km (longer in the full-day programme). The Golden Horn coastal road is flat, with gently sloping ramps in some places (particularly the Fener-Balat hills). It is of moderate difficulty and still suitable for people who do not cycle regularly, although setting the right pace matters. Guides add more frequent breaks where needed.
Comfortable clothing suited to the season, comfortable trainers, a water bottle (one mounted on the bike can be provided), sun cream, a hat, sunglasses, a small backpack for personal belongings and a rain jacket in case of rain. A camera or phone is also recommended.
The tour can continue in light rain (suitable clothing is recommended). In heavy rain, storms or other adverse weather, the programme is postponed or an indoor alternative (for example a visit to Miniatürk or a museum) is put in place. The decision is made by the organising team on the morning of the tour.
Meals are not included in the standard package. Breakfast in Balat, lunch at a restaurant in Eyüp Sultan or tea and coffee on Pierre Loti Hill can be added as an additional service.
Around 10-12 hours from coach departure to return (09:00-19:00). Active riding time, including breaks and the guide's commentary, is 5-6 hours.
The tour is designed primarily for adult corporate employee groups. However, if it is organised as part of a company family day, children aged 12 and over who can ride a bike may join with their parents (children's bikes and helmets must be requested in advance).
