The London corporate finance trip is a professional discovery programme in the City of London, also known as the "Square Mile", in which a guide specialising in financial history explains the history of banking, insurance and capital markets on the spot. It runs with flights from Istanbul, Ankara or İzmir and is planned as a half-day walk, a full day or a comprehensive two-day programme, with accommodation in or around the City of London.
The walking route begins at the Bank of England, founded in 1694, and continues to the Royal Exchange, founded by Thomas Gresham in 1565, Mansion House, the City of London's historic ceremonial building, and the 15th-century Guildhall. The Richard Rogers-designed building of the Lloyd's of London insurance market, Norman Foster's 30 St Mary Axe (the Gherkin) and Leadenhall Market, a covered Victorian market, are viewed from outside. The guide explains how Lloyd's and the stock exchange were born in the coffee houses of the 17th and 18th centuries.
The full-day programme adds the Bank of England Museum and the London Mithraeum, a Roman temple of Mithras preserved beneath Bloomberg's European headquarters. On the two-day option, the second day explores the modern financial district at Canary Wharf; visits to institutions and companies relevant to your sector are requested on your behalf; visits depend on the host's approval and schedule and are not guaranteed.
It suits executive and leadership teams of 5-25, and the management and treasury teams of companies in banking, insurance, asset management and fintech. The programme is based on walking and requires a moderate level of effort.
On the half-day programme the group enters the Bank of England Museum (free, guided). Buildings such as Lloyd's of London, the Royal Exchange and the London Stock Exchange have no general visitor access inside, so they are viewed from outside. The full-day programme also includes entry to the London Mithraeum. In the Canary Wharf area the lobbies of office buildings are generally open to the public, but private company visits must be requested in advance.
The Bank of England Museum covers the history of central banking, the banknote printing process, gold bars, old coins and notes, key documents from the bank's history and Britain's handling of financial crises. The most striking section is the one where visitors can hold a real gold bar (12.5 kg).
