The Kaz Mountains corporate nature trip is a full-day programme on the foothills of the massif rising on the border of Balıkesir and Çanakkale, known in antiquity as Mount Ida, combining a waterfall walk, a village visit and olive oil culture. The tour starts at around 10:30 at the meeting point in the region and ends at around 20:00. It suits teams of 8-35 who want to experience nature and local culture on the same day.
The day opens with a forest walk to the Hasanboğuldu Waterfall near Edremit or the Mıhlı Waterfall at Yeşilvadi. The group then moves on to Adatepe village in the Ayvacık district, where stone houses, narrow lanes and the village coffee house show the region's old settlement fabric. At the Tahtakuşlar Ethnography Museum, Yörük and Turkmen traditions, textiles and objects from nomadic life are examined.
Lunch features herb dishes cooked in olive oil and local cheeses. In the afternoon an olive oil tasting workshop is held at a boutique producer, comparing the taste of different harvests and varieties. Time and interest permitting, the group goes up to Assos at Behramkale to take in the view from the Temple of Athena across to the island of Lesbos.
Suitable for department and project teams of 8-35 planning a calm day after a busy period and interested in gastronomy and local production. The physical effort is low to moderate; the waterfall paths are stony and wet in places.
Around 4-5 hours from Istanbul (3.5 hours on the alternative ferry route), around 7-8 hours from Ankara and around 2.5-3 hours from İzmir. The tour programme is arranged to start early according to the distance.
Teams travel in their own vehicles to the designated meeting point in the Kaz Mountains area, where they are met by the guide and coordinator and the tour begins. For companies that wish, vehicle hire or transfer arrangements are offered as an additional service.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are ideal for nature walks and the waterfalls. In summer the area also works well as a cool getaway. The winter months are wetter and colder, but quiet and peaceful.
No, the walks to the waterfalls are generally short and of moderate difficulty, taking around 20-30 minutes. Comfortable shoes and clothing suited to the season are recommended.
