Overview
The Troy corporate culture trip is a guided programme visiting the ancient city of Troy, near the village of Tevfikiye south of Çanakkale, and the Troy Museum right beside it. On its own it is planned as a half day; combined with other stops in Çanakkale, it becomes a full day. What is in the programme?
Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998, Troy is a mound whose superimposed settlement layers document a span of around 4,000 years. The guided walk takes in city walls from different periods, a ramp, megaron buildings, a sanctuary and a Roman odeon. The large excavation trench opened by Heinrich Schliemann in the 19th century makes it possible to understand on site how the layers sit on top of one another.
The wooden horse at the entrance to the site is a photo stop recalling the best-known scene of the epic. The Troy Museum, visited next, displays the finds from the excavations in chronological order and gives a tangible counterpart to the layers seen on the ground.
