An Istanbul old town tour covers the Historic Peninsula around Sultanahmet: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern and the Grand Bazaar, most of them within walking distance of each other. We organise private guided old city tours for corporate groups as a half-day or full-day programme, with licensed guides, coach transfers, lunch and group logistics arranged under one proposal.
Kurumsal Geziler is an Istanbul-based, TÜRSAB-licensed travel company (licence No. 12558) that has been planning programmes for company groups, incentive trips and congress delegations since 2015.
What do you see on an Istanbul old town tour?
A classic old town tour links six or seven sites that together cover Byzantine and Ottoman Istanbul.
- Hagia Sophia: built in the 6th century under Emperor Justinian, its great dome shaped religious architecture for centuries. It has served as a cathedral, then a mosque, then a museum, and has again been an active mosque since 2020. Visits follow the mosque's current visiting arrangements, which we confirm during planning. See the Hagia Sophia corporate culture trip.
- Sultan Ahmed (Blue) Mosque: completed in the early 17th century opposite Hagia Sophia, known for its six minarets and the blue İznik tiles of its interior. It is an active place of worship.
- The Hippodrome: the former chariot-racing arena of Constantinople, now Sultanahmet Square, where the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpentine Column and the Walled Obelisk still stand.
- Topkapı Palace: the residence and seat of government of the Ottoman sultans for around four centuries, laid out in a series of courtyards above the meeting point of the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. The Treasury and the Holy Relics are among the highlights. See the Topkapı Palace corporate trip.
- Basilica Cistern: a 6th-century underground water reservoir with rows of columns rising from the water and two Medusa-head column bases. It is a cool, atmospheric short visit. See the Basilica Cistern corporate trip.
- Grand Bazaar: one of the oldest covered markets in the world, with thousands of shops along vaulted streets, old inns (hans) and the original bedesten at its core. See the Grand Bazaar corporate trip.
- Spice Bazaar (optional): the L-shaped market in Eminönü beside the New Mosque, selling spices, dried fruit, tea and Turkish delight — a good final stop before a cruise from a nearby pier.

Should we choose a half-day or a full-day old town tour?
A half-day tour covers three or four sites around Sultanahmet; a full day adds Topkapı Palace or the Grand Bazaar and a lunch in a historic venue.
| Time | Half-day tour (morning) | Full-day tour |
|---|---|---|
| 09:00 | Coach drop-off near Sultanahmet, guide briefing | Coach drop-off near Sultanahmet, guide briefing |
| 09:15–10:00 | Hippodrome and Sultanahmet Square | Hippodrome and Sultanahmet Square |
| 10:00–11:00 | Hagia Sophia (subject to visiting arrangements) | Hagia Sophia (subject to visiting arrangements) |
| 11:00–11:45 | Blue Mosque, outside prayer times | Blue Mosque, outside prayer times |
| 11:45–12:30 | Basilica Cistern, then coach pick-up | Basilica Cistern |
| 12:30–14:00 | — | Lunch in a historic venue or a traditional restaurant |
| 14:00–16:00 | — | Topkapı Palace courtyards, Treasury and Holy Relics |
| 16:00–17:30 | — | Grand Bazaar walk or team challenge; optional Spice Bazaar |
Timings are indicative. Prayer times change through the year, and museum opening hours and closing days are confirmed during planning, so the final order of visits is set for your date.
Who guides the tour?
Tours are led by licensed professional tour guides who specialise in Byzantine and Ottoman Istanbul and are used to briefing business audiences. English-speaking guides are standard; German, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and other languages are arranged on request. For groups interested in architecture, the Istanbul architecture corporate trip is led by an architect or art historian.
How do large groups move around the old town?
Large groups are split into sub-groups of around 20–25 people, each with its own guide, and follow staggered routes so they do not queue at the same site.
- Headsets: whisper systems let every guest hear the guide clearly in busy squares and inside mosques, where speaking loudly is inappropriate.
- Coach access: coaches drop off and pick up at designated points around Sultanahmet; the guide walks the group from there.
- Walking: the core sites are close together, but a full day involves several kilometres on foot, including cobbles, steps and slopes. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
- Coordination: an on-site coordinator keeps the sub-groups on schedule and handles lunch, toilets and any guest with reduced mobility.

What should guests know before visiting mosques?
Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque are active places of worship, so visits take place outside prayer times and follow a simple dress code.
- Shoulders and knees covered for everyone; no shorts or sleeveless tops.
- Women cover their hair with a headscarf; we advise guests to bring one.
- Shoes are removed before entering the prayer hall.
- Guests keep their voices low and do not photograph people at prayer.
- On Fridays, the midday prayer affects visiting times, so we plan mosque visits for another part of the day.
When is the Grand Bazaar closed?
The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays and on religious holidays, so old town tours that include it are scheduled from Monday to Saturday. Opening hours of museums and palaces, and their weekly closing days, are checked for your dates during planning.
When is the best time for an old town tour?
Mornings are usually the best time, because the main sites are calmer before midday and the walking is cooler in summer.
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for a full day on foot. In summer, we start early, plan indoor sites such as the Basilica Cistern and Topkapı Palace's rooms for the hottest hours and keep water on the coach. In winter the old town is quieter, but daylight is shorter, so full-day programmes end earlier. During Ramadan and on religious holidays, mosque visiting arrangements and bazaar opening times can change; we check them for your dates.
Can an old town tour include team building?
Yes — the old city is a good setting for formats that mix discovery with teamwork.
- Grand Bazaar team challenge: teams solve clues, find artisans and complete tasks in the bazaar's streets and hans.
- Photo hunt: teams photograph details across Sultanahmet against a list of themes, with a short review over tea.
- Artisan workshop: a hands-on session such as marbling (ebru), calligraphy or tile painting with a local craftsperson.
- Lunch in a historic venue: a private lunch in a restored Ottoman building or a traditional restaurant near the bazaar.

Can we combine the old town with a Bosphorus cruise?
Yes — the most popular Istanbul day for corporate groups is the old city by day and a Bosphorus cruise in the evening. Boats can board at Eminönü or Karaköy, a short transfer from Sultanahmet. See private Bosphorus cruises for corporate groups. For longer programmes, the Istanbul palaces package adds Dolmabahçe, Beylerbeyi and Yıldız, and Istanbul DMC services cover hotels, meetings and transfers.
How to get a proposal
Tell us the group size, dates, hotel area, preferred languages and whether you want a half day, a full day or a combination with other activities. We return two or three itineraries with guides, transfers and meals, itemised in the proposal, and one coordinator manages the day from pick-up to drop-off. To start, use the request form.
