Team motivation camps are programmes where a team works around a shared task in a setting outside work. The aim is not entertainment but building the trust that cannot be built in the office: interdependent tasks, shared responsibility, and ground on which hierarchy is temporarily switched off. This is why camps are usually planned with an overnight stay — real closeness starts on the evening of the first day.

Which problems does it actually solve?

A motivation camp is effective for specific, correctly diagnosed problems: remote teams who never see each other, a chronic communication gap between two departments, two corporate cultures that have not merged after an acquisition, a new manager who remains at a distance from the team. Camps organised on a general diagnosis of "low morale" rarely work; if pay, workload or management is the underlying issue, a camp does not solve it, it only postpones it.

Which format suits which team?

Outdoor formats — trekking, rafting, sailing — require coordination and mutual dependence, so they produce fast results in trust building. Workshop-based formats — communication, storytelling, joint production — land better with verbal teams and desk-based groups. Gatherings designed for hybrid teams give structure to bringing remote colleagues physically together a few times a year. For deeper, rest-oriented formats see company retreat programmes, and for work aimed at the management layer see leadership and development programmes.

Should participation be compulsory?

On programmes involving physical activity, an equivalent alternative is planned for anyone who prefers not to take part. Expecting compulsory participation produces exactly the opposite effect in this kind of programme: someone who does not want to join affects both their own experience and the group's dynamic. Every programme sets a difficulty tier based on participants' ability; equipment, safety briefing, certified instructors and insurance are included in scope.

What group sizes and which season?

The ideal group size is 15-60 people. For teams above 60, participants are split into parallel groups with a separate facilitator each, and all groups come together for the evening programme. For outdoor formats, an indoor alternative that comes into play if it rains is planned from the outset and included in the quote. Simply share your date and headcount through the quote form.

Frequently asked questions

A two-day format with one overnight stay is the most common and the most effective. Because real closeness begins on the evening of the first day, single-day formats usually stay superficial. Multi-day programmes are only justified when several teams are coming together.

An equivalent alternative activity is planned for every programme and participation is not compulsory. Expecting compulsory attendance backfires in this kind of programme; someone who does not want to join affects both their own experience and the group dynamic.

It will not. A camp is effective for teams whose communication channel is open but distant. If pay, workload, role ambiguity or management is the underlying issue, the programme only postpones it. In that case the issue itself needs to be addressed first.

The ideal range is 15-60 people. For teams above 60, participants are split into parallel groups with a separate facilitator each, and all groups come together for the evening programme.

For outdoor formats an indoor alternative is planned from the outset and included in the quote. The alternative is chosen so that it preserves the objective of the main format.

Facilitator notes, whatever the team produced together (an action plan, a list of communication principles, or a joint piece of work) and participant feedback are shared after the programme.
